Muskox

Our muskoxen are called Ullrik, Nina-Cathrin and Biola. Ullrik is born in 2010 in Tromsø at the University’s department for Arctic Biology. Nina-Cathrin is born at the Muskox Center in Sweden in 2015. Biola was born at the same place in 2017.

  • Scientific Name: Ovibos moschatus
  • Expansion: The Muskox is originally from the Arctic Canada, Greenland and Alaska. The Alaska Population became extinct at the late 1800s. It has since been re-introduced and has also been imported to northern Europe – including Norway and Russia.
  • Height: 1.1 – 11.5 m (adult, at shoulder)
  • Weight: 180 – 410 kg (adult)
  • Lifespan: Can be up to 25 years
