Polar Park is an animal park in Bardu municipality in the county of Troms.

Opened in 1994, the park is based on exhibiting animals in their natural surroundings which means that each species also gets a lot of room to romp around.

With 1100 dekar (1 dekar = 1000 square meters) in only 12 enclosures, the Polar Park is one of the animal parks in the world with the most area per animal.

Rohkunborri National Park is only 12 km from Polar Park.

A visit in the wilderness

Polar Park is more than a traditional zoo. We place great emphasis on animal welfare. We give animals large areas to create a habitat as natural as possible for the animals.

Our main goal is to create a Norwegian wilderness experience with the beautiful surroundings of Northern Norway's nature as a setting for your visit to Polar Park.

If you only have time for a short visit, we recommend that you join the guided tour at the predator feeding time or book a private guided tour before arriving at the park, as it can be difficult to see all the animals within a short time since due to the large areas they live in.

Polar Park is open almost every day throughout the year and a winter visit can be just as good as a summer visit.

Actually, a winter visit is recommended. Then it is possible to see the animals in their thick winter coat. In winter the animals are also more active because of the low temperatures (apart from the hibernating bears). The mating season for wolves and lynx typically fall between February and April.

Polar Park – A family park

In addition to walking around the park and experiencing the wild animals there are many other activities you can take advantage of in the park during peak season.

A lot of our guests choose to stay for several days, as we have a parking dedicated for campers and caravans. This would provide several days to enjoy the park, fish in the river that runs right through the park or grilling at barbecue areas that are set up.

If you feel more like enjoying a good meal indoors, you can visit our cozy restaurant, which is located at the park entrance. It is also possible to book our Log Cabin that can accommodate up to 45 guests for dinner events. It is decorated with stylish wooden tables and seating in the form of benches covered with reindeer skin. In the center of the cabin we have a bonfire which adds an extra dimension to the experience. Here you can enjoy traditional Norwegian dinners and a wide range of beverages, depending on your preferences.
